3700/1A
Assigned catalogue reference 3700/1A. Vintage reference identity was matched by the explicit reference in the specialist listing/catalogue; dimensions describe reported examples and may vary with case condition.
Patek's 2006 history identifies the original ref. 3700/1 and states 42 mm wide including the left and right hinges. Crown inclusion is unspecified. This is not a diagonal definition. Earlier source wording is retained: Monochrome defines the 10-to-4 axis and Phillips states 42 mm width. A separate 40 mm auction diameter remains in observations and uses different labeling.
Sources differ
Directly read sources report different values. The exact values remain separate and no averaging was applied.
Patek's 2006 technical sheet defines 40.5 mm along the 2-to-8 diagonal for steel 5980. It separately gives 44 mm along the 3-to-9 axis including the hinges. The retained 40.5 mm selection is not a horizontal case width. Earlier selection note is retained: Diameter, not a crown-inclusive width.
Patek's 2006 steel 5980/1 technical sheet defines 44 mm along the 3-to-9 horizontal axis including the left and right hinges. This is a factory specification for the steel base model, not a caliper measurement of an individual specimen. The separate 40.5 mm measurement follows the 2-to-8 diagonal.
Pictured blue-dial Nautilus 5711/1A-010. Manifest does not establish production year; later 26-330 SC versus earlier 324 SC cannot be resolved from the front image. Integrated attachment is not assigned a conventional lug-width number.
Patek's 2006 technical sheet defines 40 mm along the 2-to-8 diagonal. It separately gives 43 mm along the 3-to-9 axis including the hinges and 44.02 mm including the crown. The retained 40 mm selection is not a horizontal case width. Earlier selection note is retained: Pictured blue-dial steel reference. 44.5 mm case lug span conflicts with 48.1 mm in another review; no span selected.
Patek's 2006 steel blue-black-dial 5711/1 technical sheet defines 43 mm along the 3-to-9 horizontal axis, including the left and right hinges and excluding the crown. This is a factory specification for the steel base model, not a caliper measurement of this photographed specimen. No year or movement identification follows from the case measurement.

Sources and unconfirmed details
Two exact-reference Tim Mosso reviews disagree: 44.5 mm versus 48.1 mm. Endpoint definitions are absent, so neither span is selected.
Integrated bracelet attachment. No accepted source establishes a conventional lug-width measurement for the pictured 5711/1A-010.
Manifest/front photo does not establish production year. Later 26-330 SC dealer claim is observed, but earlier 324 SC cannot be excluded.

Watchdives WD0013 Sunray Navy Blue: Watchdives WD0013 / WD0013B
Choose the Navy WD0013 for a two-hand quartz dial and Watchdives' stated 7.7 mm thickness. Its integrated steel bracelet comes with a half link for sizing.
The compromise. WD0013 omits the original 3700/1A's date and uses quartz instead of an automatic movement. Its stated lug-to-lug does not tell us how far the first bracelet links project over a wrist.
Choose the Turquoise WD0013B if you want a date and seconds hand in the Watchdives case. The maker names ETA F06.412 high-accuracy quartz and states 8.2 mm thickness.
The compromise. The movement is quartz rather than the original's automatic. Watchdives calls it high-accuracy quartz but gives no quantified result on the page. It is 0.5 mm thicker by the maker's figures than WD0013.
Specht & Söhne SP0005A1-V2 on steel: Specht & Söhne SP0005A-V2
Choose the SP0005A1-V2 if an automatic movement matters more than the thinner Watchdives cases. Specht lists a Miyota 8215, a 40 mm case and sapphire crystal. It follows the Nautilus family rather than one reference.
The compromise. Specht lists 11 mm thick, more than either Watchdives version. More important for fit, its two storefronts give lug to lug as 46.9 mm and 51 mm, so lug to lug is left blank, and no bracelet span is listed.
For the Nautilus case and integrated-bracelet design, the useful first choice is movement and dial function. Watchdives WD0013 is a two-hand quartz watch with no date. WD0013B adds seconds and date with a different quartz calibre. Specht & Söhne SP0005A1-V2 is the automatic option.
The original below is the first-generation steel 3700/1A. The Watchdives model follows that reference. The Specht follows the Nautilus family more broadly, so it sits beside the 3700/1A to compare functions and proportions, not as a copy of it.
The Nautilus family includes different functions
The early 3700/1A describes a time-and-date choice. Later Nautilus references add complications. WatchBase lists steel 5980/1A-001 with automatic CH 28-520 C and a chronograph, while Patek's own family history confirms that the line expanded beyond the original. None of the shortlist choices here is a chronograph alternative.
Do not use one set of Nautilus dimensions for every generation. Even for the 3700/1A, sources describe vintage examples as 40 mm across and 42 mm wide, so the original's case width is left open here rather than worked into a size difference.
What carries the Nautilus design
Patek describes a porthole-inspired case, rounded octagonal bezel, horizontally embossed dial and integrated bracelet. The lateral ears are part of the early case construction, according to Christie's description of the 3700/1A. A homage can borrow the silhouette without the construction or finishing.
Watchdives' two versions show why a familiar case need not mean identical function. Navy WD0013 has only hour and minute hands. Turquoise WD0013B adds a seconds hand and date. Compare those controls before choosing by dial colour alone.
Bracelet span matters more than the width label
Watchdives lists its cases as 41 x 42.5 mm without saying which is which, plus 45.5 mm lug to lug. Neither figure says how far the integrated first links reach. Specht's two stores give different lug to lug figures, and none of these watches lists a bracelet span, so case width alone will not tell you the fit.
Watchdives lists a bracelet taper from 24 to 16 mm and a half link fitted. That helps with sizing. For a narrow wrist, ask for the first-link span and the usable bracelet length before buying.
Choose function before movement shorthand
The Navy WD0013's Ronda 714 is quartz and drives two hands. The WD0013B uses an ETA F06.412 and adds seconds and a date. Watchdives calls the latter high-accuracy quartz but publishes no accuracy figure on the product page.
Specht lists an automatic Miyota 8215 with a 42-hour reserve. Its listed 11 mm case is thicker than the Watchdives 7.7 and 8.2 mm. That is the cost of choosing the automatic.

The early Nautilus and three movement choices
The 3700/1A is the original design and set of functions to compare against. The Watchdives versions follow it; the Specht follows the Nautilus family more broadly. Sizes measured in different ways are not compared.

Questions
Which Nautilus-style choice has a date?
Watchdives lists a date for the WD0013B. The WD0013 has two hands and no date. The 3700/1A has a date, so the Navy WD0013 leaves out one of the original's functions.
Will a 40 or 41 mm integrated watch fit like a round watch?
The case figure alone cannot answer that. Watchdives does not label the axes of its 41 x 42.5 mm measurement, Specht's lug-to-lug sources disagree, and all three lack effective first-link span measurements. Check the bracelet span and sizing limits for the exact version.
Does SP0005A1-V2 copy Nautilus 3700/1A?
No. The Specht follows the Nautilus family, not that reference. The Watchdives model is the one that follows the 3700/1A, and the table sets both against it.
Sources and dates
We read Patek's family history, exact-reference auction catalogues and current candidate product pages on 4 October 2026. Vintage dimensions need care. Auction houses and reference databases can use different axes, and an individual vintage example cannot establish the fit of the entire reference. This is a source comparison, not a hands-on review.
The three choices use verified product configurations. Maker water-resistance and movement claims remain claims. We preserve conflicting Specht lug-to-lug figures and do not infer bracelet fit from a case-width number.
Original vintage specifications rely on auction catalogues and a secondary reference database. No independent homage measurements or pressure tests support this guide. Original width and Specht lug-to-lug remain unresolved; effective integrated-bracelet span is unknown throughout.

Patek introduced Nautilus in 1976. Auction catalogues identify steel 3700/1A with automatic calibre 28-255 C, hours, minutes and date. Published case dimensions disagree in both number and label.
