San Martin SN0058-G-X, 36.5 mm: San Martin SN0058 Datejust-style dress watch

Consider the SN0058-G-X for a compact fluted-bezel layout, a date magnifier and a five-link steel bracelet. San Martin lists 36.5 mm width and 43 mm lug-to-lug. This is a size-and-layout choice, not a recommendation for a specific calibre.

The compromise. The page lists PT5000 and SW200, and its option menu shows PT5000, so check which one comes with the dial colour you want. Its carved steel bezel is a different material from the Rolex versions.

Alpha Datejust-style automatic, 36 mm black dial: Alpha Datejust automatic, 36 mm

Consider this black-dial Alpha for a 36 mm automatic with a named Miyota 8215. Alpha lists sapphire and 12.5 mm thickness including the crystal.

The compromise. Alpha lists 5 ATM water resistance. Its black-dial page lists no lug to lug and says nothing about how the date sets or how much the magnifier enlarges.

In brief

Choose the size, bezel and bracelet separately. The two Rolex versions on this page are a 36 mm 126234 with a white dial and Jubilee bracelet, and a 41 mm 126334 with a green ombre dial and Oyster bracelet. Both use calibre 3235 and a fluted bezel.

The shortlist is short: a 36.5 mm San Martin and a 36 mm black-dial Alpha. The San Martin lists a date magnifier and case span, but offers more than one calibre. The Alpha names its movement but lists fewer date and fit details.

A fluted bezel does not settle the materials

The 126234 and 126334 combine Oystersteel and white gold. San Martin describes a carved stainless-steel bezel, and Alpha lists steel. The same ridged pattern does not mean the same material.

Rolex describes its Jubilee as five-piece links and its Oyster as three-piece solid links. The two original configurations here use different bracelets. Compare the chosen bracelet, rather than assuming every 36 mm or 41 mm Datejust comes the same way.

Rolex says it created the Jubilee for the Datejust launch in 1945. Its account of fluting explains that the shape first helped screw the bezel to the case, before it became a design signature. That history explains the pattern, not how well a homage's case seals.

Check the date magnifier and the movement

Both originals use sapphire with a Cyclops lens over the date and calibre 3235 with quick date setting. San Martin lists a convex date magnifier at 2.5 times.

The San Martin page lists PT5000 or SW200 in its specifications, and its option menu showed PT5000. If the movement matters to you, confirm which one you are getting before ordering. The table leaves the calibre blank.

Alpha names the Miyota 8215 on the black-dial page but says nothing about the date or a magnifier.

A 36 mm shortlist does not answer the 41 mm choice

The San Martin is listed at 36.5 mm by 43 mm lug-to-lug and 11.9 mm thick. Alpha is listed at 36 mm and 12.5 mm including crystal, with no sourced lug-to-lug here. These are listed figures, not measurements taken using one method.

The Datejust 41 is 41 mm. Neither shortlisted watch is that size. Rolex does not list thickness or lug to lug on these pages, so the full fit cannot be compared.

The Parnis green-dial SKU 676 is left out of the shortlist. Its page title and specifications disagree on the bezel colour, and it may not be the same model as the PA6088 on the family page. Its listed 39.5 mm does not settle that.

Against the original, spec by spec

Two compact choices beside the Datejust 36

Alpha matches the original's nominal 36 mm diameter; San Martin adds half a millimetre. Their steel bezels and own bracelet designs should be compared separately from the Rolex configuration's materials and Jubilee construction.

Which option here is closest to 36 mm in stated diameter?

Alpha is listed at 36 mm, the same nominal diameter as the 126234. San Martin is 36.5 mm. That half millimetre says nothing on its own about bracelet comfort or how the end links sit on your wrist.

Is there a sourced 41 mm homage in this shortlist?

No. The original 126334 is 41 mm, but the two shortlisted alternatives are 36 and 36.5 mm. The 39.5 mm Parnis is left out until it is clear which model it is.

Does the San Martin definitely use PT5000?

The selector read during research showed PT5000, but the written product specification says PT5000/SW200 and the compared size version does not settle the movement choice. Confirm the option on the offered watch.

Does a fluted steel bezel reproduce the Rolex material?

It copies the pattern in a different material. The Rolex versions combine Oystersteel and white gold; San Martin and Alpha list steel.
